When to use "Aniversario" or "Cumpleaños" in Spanish

Aniversario

- It is usually used to refer to the date on which a event (wedding, event, company, death) completes a year.

Example 1: (wedding)

Hoy estamos celebrando el quinto aniversario de nuestro casamiento.

(Today we are celebrating the fifth anniversary of our wedding.)

Example 2: (death)

México homenajeará a Octavio Paz en el aniversario de su muerte.

(Mexico will pay tribute to Octavio Paz in the anniversary of his death.)

Cumpleaños

- Birtday (an anniversary of the day of one's birth).

Example 3:

Hoy estamos todos invitados al cumpleaños de Antonio.

(Today we're all invited to the Antonio's birthday.)
